When you get older

Do you ever think about what might happen to you as you get older? No, I don’t mean wrinkles, backache and so on. I mean, do you wonder if you’ll be able to continue living on your own in a house, apartment or condo ?

Does the prospect of ending up in a nursing home come to your mind? When you have lost your mobility or can’t really move around – even in wheelchairs or something, you don’t really have a choice, even if you don’t want to be in the position of having others care for you.

My parents in laws are both cancer survivors, but they are healthy now and are quite mobile. They moved into a retirement community recently. The retirement community is set up so that people are living in apartment like dwellings – similar to if they were living on their own. The only major difference is that everyone who’s living in the retirement community is around the same age, the meals are prepared for them. The retirement  community also has a communal area where community related activities are organized and the residents can socialize with one another.

Whether you are living on your own or living with relatives, that’s fine if you are able to cope with it. But, if you don’t have enough people in your lives to visit you as often or you are feeling lonely,  living in a retirement community is not a bad idea at all. What do you think?

Protect your hearing

When I was a student in college, I used to live in a house very close to the highway. I lived there for four years and every time my friends came over, they used to complaint how noisy the cars and trucks at the highway were. They often wondered how could I slept through the nights in the midst of all this noises.

Well, I think my ears just learned to tune out all this noises after a while. Maybe because of this constant exposure to noise pollution for four years, there were signs of hearing problem in the last two years. Mind you, the big boy was not the only person who complained I don’t hear/listen well. Though I occasionally tuned him out on purpose..:-)

In fact, in our modern society, so many sources have brought up the noise levels and created a a hearing crisis that affecting more and more people. We live or work in an environment that exposed to noise daily. Moving and changing job may not be a choice, but we can work on Noise Reduction, as they said prevention is better than cure.

Since noise induced hearing loss is a common occupational hazard to many workers around the world. Anyone who works in a noisy environment and is exposed to noise daily would need Hearing Protection. Noise induced hearing loss may not be reversible but it’s preventable!

Sonomax has created a variety of hearing protection earpieces and Noise Reduction Headphones for filtering the toxic noise that can be a serious threat to our hearing. The earpiece can be custom-fit and custom calibrated for different individuals. It acts as a highly efficient filter between sounds and eardrums.

The earpieces can filter out the harmful sounds but welcome sounds like music and human voices with perfect fidelity. These products are used mainly in the industrial sector; however it can be equally effective for concert goers and sport spectators. Do you know you can even use it to block out all your spouse snoring?
